MYSORE

Famous for its Dussehra celebrations throughout the country, this city is known as the cultural capital of Karnataka. The Mysore palace, built in Saracenic style, is an outcome of the intermingling of Hindu and Muslim influences,  St. Philomena's Church built in Gothic style is one of the largest churches in India, known for its lofty towers and imposing cathedral. Co-existing with the magnificent church is the Chamundeshwari Temple located in Chamundi hill and one of the most revered places of Hindu worship. Showcasing-the awe-inspiring works of painters Raja Ravi Varma and Svetoslav Roerich is the Shri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery, established in 1875. The cultural site displays traditional gold paintings and age-old canvases done in mineral and vegetable dyes and paints.
