A GOOD TEAM PLAYER

To be a good team player you must have certain qualities. 10 qualities of a good team player are:

Committed: As a good team player, you must always give your 100 percent for the team. You need not be the best at what you do, but you must be willing to commit yourself wholly to your work.

Reliable and Responsible: You must be reliable and responsible for what you do. Like Rahul Dravid you must be dependable and someone that the rest of the team can rely on.

Cooperative: To work in a team you must be able to cooperate with the other members. If the team has decided to do something in a specific way, even though you may not agree with it cooperate, and be committed.

Willing to share: This is very important. If you feel you have some extra inputs that you could give to your team, share it and don't keep it to yourself.

Set an example: Don't make it a habit of pointing out the faults of others. Instead set an example and encourage others to work diligently.

Friendly: You will never be a good team player if you do not mix with the others and remain aloof. You are like one big family, so treat each other with respect.

Listen to others: Others may have a point of view that is different to yours. They may be right or they may be wrong, but as a team player you must be willing to hear every point of view and as a team decide which the best is.

Active participation: Don't be on a team, just for a free ride. Be actively involved in whatever the team discusses, decides and implements.

Adaptable: Sometimes circumstances could be difficult. It is here that a good team player quickly adapts to the situation.

Honest: Finally, to be a good team player, you need to be honest to yourself and to your work.

For a team to function well, everyone must contribute. Man is after all a social animal, and needs to be around or with others of his kind. All through life we live and work in teams. From ‘team family' to 'team class' to 'team school' to 'team city' to 'team country' to 'team humanity', every part of our lives is determined by what we do and how we perform in a team.
